Tongariro National Park is located on the south side of Lake Taupo on New Zealand's North Island. The park has three active volcanoes: Mount Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Mount Tongariro. The volcano Ngauruhoe served as the setting for Mount Doom in the movie Lord of the Rings. The park is also known for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a walk in Tongariro National Park. The walk is considered one of the most spectacular walks on the North Island. The walk runs over a volcanic terrain, which was created by eruptions of Mount Ngarahoe and Mount Tongariro
