Most woods sufficiently dry subjected to enough friction will produce embers. We all know that the ideal wood to use for bow drill comes from dry dead standing sources. I... actually prefer a limb that has died, broken off from the tree, and has been hung up in that tree for years. There you have, wood that has aged, reached a certain level of decomposition, and has developed the ideal density for Bow Drill. What I wanted to show you today, breaks that convention. I used a green living piece of Water Oak, cut it into blanks, dried them in the back glass of my Camry which I call my Solar Dehydrater, and in just 32 hours (two sunny days and a night) I made it produce an ember and got the flames.
