@122Damra9 years ago Hey, amazing video. I have a question. I'm thinking to buy Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio int. sound card. I have w8.1 really good specs laptop. I will be using gibson lespaul 490 498 pickups, recording with shure sm57. I heard there will be always annoying clipping and latency issues with focusrite scarlett series. is that true? Even if I use microphone from amp and select line on audio card? Also I have 1 more question may be dumb but do I need di box if I'm recording my guitar with (Guitar+amp+mic+sound card+laptop) ? I heard you only need di box if you want to connect your guitar directly to sound card without amp model or direct to mix, laptop etc. but I'm not sure its good to use on miking amp too. Sorry for my bad english. Thanks. Have a good day! ... 1

@bytor999996 years ago Great video. Thanks. What I was wondering is, is there a nice device that you connect your pedal to that will take that signal and record it loss-less to some memory on the device, that I can then later transfer to the computer, and is cost effective, a.k.a. Cheap? ...

@Radiffi9 years ago Hi Marcus. Nice video, well presented and informative. I wonder if you could please tell me is there a big difference in recorded sound quality between the audio interface and a usb cable? I have the usb, and find the quality okay but find latency a problem. Is there any issue with this when using the interface? I’m guessing that the audio interface is the better, more professional option. Be great if you could help me.
    Cheers, Sam.

@stanhoving3448 years ago I need to record acoustic guitar to my laptop what would be better a microphone with usb or an audio interface and which one would you recommend?
  • @
@MarcusHobbsOfficial11 years ago if your using a pc then get 'audacity' or if on mac then use 'garageband' and import the backing track into the software as an audio track. Then its as simple as putting headphones on when your recording your guitar to avoid spill between the backing track and your live recording. Hope that helps ...

@joshplaystheguitar6 years ago What would be the best volume setting for recording your amp with a mic?
  • @
@playstionrules0311 years ago Great video, very helpful. I'd be grateful for your advice, I'm trying to record my guitar on Cubase, I've got a jack lead coming out from the Emulated Output socket on the back of a Blackstar amp which leads onto a jack to aux adapter so I can then plug that in to the microphone socket on my computer. I am able to record but the sound quality isn't great and I'm assuming that's because I'm just using a small adapter instead of having a DI box or something in between? Thanks a lot :) ...
  • @
@Alidorne10 years ago So with using the DI does it work with things like toontracks, or if you buy the line6 pod do you have to use their software for mixing?

@Azunaii10 years ago Great vid, just the type of info I was looking for! Hope you read this and are able to answer a quick question of a fellow musician: So, your microphone in the 1st guitar example at , is that via the audio interface as well or straight into PC? I'm about to invest into some recording equipment but I'm on the fence about whether or not I should get an audio interface (plugging guitar straight into the AI), a mic (USB-mic in front of amp directly into PC) or both (mic -> AI -> PC). Do you have any tips?  ...

@randylahey14109 years ago my peavey vypyr amp came with recording software but no cable, how do I use it and does it sound good?
  • @
@Choppin994610 years ago well my amp (Peavey vypyr VIP) has an usb jack which allows me to connect the amplifier to computer  and it acts as a audio interface, but the output is so lack of mid-range and sounds like it came out from an amplifier head instead the sound of the amplifier itself.
Is there anything I can do about it? like buying a real audio interface or twerk around the EQ control?

@laggEcss11 years ago So I was wondering if I buy a 3.5mm jack cable to a guitar jack, can I just simply plug this in to my internal sound card microphone input on my desktop pc? Or is there another way that I can do this without buying an external soundcard? Thanks ...

@tommyarmour689 years ago I have 6i6, and a iMac with core i5, 12gb ram. I play Amplitube 3 quite a bit, I'm now looking for a decent microphone to record sound for video's. Any suggestions? What kind of Camera are you using and what MIC do you like the best? ...

@TeamFlamingStones10 years ago I've been using my Zoom H4N for both film-audio and guitar recording, but I constantly run into the issue that I have to turn the gain of the Zoom to like 12 (out of 100) before I can freely express dynamics and such, but then there's the problem of noise. In recent internet searching I've gathered that this recorder might not be the best for this purpose, but I'm not sure I want to buy an additional recorder unless it's going to have a massive impact. Suggestions to what I should do/ what I'm doing wrong? ...

@alexandertocco66879 years ago is it safe for the mic to record your guitar using a condenser mic right up to your amp like that?
  • @
@JmAnHiLl549 years ago So if I have a mac or a pc, and I buy the microphone and plug it in my computer, do I have to download or buy a studio production thing? Replies would be greatly appreciated.
  • @
@MarcusHobbsOfficial11 years ago ye if your running an audio interface (AI) then it doesnt matter what soundcard you have because the actual sound is sent straight from the mic into your AI then through whatever recording software your using and that is the sound being recorded. Your soundcard only comes into play when your listening back to the recording and if you buy a decent AI you can even bypass your soundcard then and listen to your recording and all other audio through your AI. Hope that makes sense and helps mate. ... 2

@fernandoftfferraz8 years ago Hey man, I´m having a problem with the sound. When I listen to tracks in reaper, just to play along, for example, using the interface, the sound of the song is in bad qualitiy. Do you know what´s the problem?
  • @
@p_12108 years ago Can you mic up your own amp and cab with sm57 into say an irig pro or other interface with good results without using shitty plugins like amplitude?
  • @
@Flashbackuk5 years ago The best way to di your guitar is to use a Behringer line input box or similar. They do one that has six channels and is a rack mount unit. It will accept up to 3000 watts from the speaker socket on your amp and it loads your amp correctly too. That way you get the sound of your amp. You can adjust the EQ to compensate for the lack of a speaker in the chain on your mixer if you have one. If not then do it on your daw. I haven’t found any other method that works as well as this. This is fine on clean sounds but overdrive is a different kettle of fish. It always sounds fizzy. ...

@GeorgeHarris9810 years ago Great video but I really want to hear about the latency from the first three options. I want to record a multi-track demo with Garageband on my Mac, using a mix of guitar and software instruments (via a midi controller). I have a guitar jack to USB cable and, on my old PC experienced a lot of latency, making it impossible to record with other tracks. Do any of the first three options have the same issue? If so, to what extent? Thanks ...

@richde7010 years ago Does it sound good if you just hold a microphone in front of your guitar and record it like that?
  • @
@SiCkTURBOz11 years ago So even with a cheap soundcard on a $350 laptop, if I buy a decent audio interface with some good dynamic microphones, and mic/record my amplifier, my computer should hold up with good results?
  • @
    @LostFanFiction10 years ago Hi Marcus.
I really enjoyed your video. I have liked and subscribed.
If you have the time, I have a couple of questions for you. To begin with, what Condenser Mic are you using? Do you recommend it, or any other ones?
In your second example, you are shown using the Focusrite Sapphire- is that setup simply Guitar>Audio Interface>PC... or is it  Guitar>Amp>Audio Interface>PC ..?
If money was no object, do you think you could get any higher quality sound from a more expensive Audio Interface? Or would it be simply wasting money to get a more expensive one?
Finally, how much of a role do you think the actual guitar itself plays in terms of sound quality?
I'd really appreciate it if you had the time to answer.
