Heated floors are becoming more popular, and so are heated shower floors. More and more people are installing heat, not only on the main floor of a bathroom, but also extending the heat into the shower floor and onto the bench seat. There are a few things that need to be done a bit different when the electric floor heat is installed in a wet area. The shower base is installed as usual, be it a mud dry pack or a foam tray. What changes is that now an electric floor heat has to be installed and then protected from the enormous amount of water that a typical shower is subjected to. When using Ditra Heat, the process is really not that difficult, the ditra heat mat is installed over the shower floor, and then it is sealed under a layer of Kerdi waterproofing membrane, as is normally done on a shower floor without heat. The only real difference is that there is an extra layer of heat between the mud base and the kerdi membrane. It is important to note, that the sensor is not placed in the shower floor, but in the main floor area of the bathroom, and the hot to cold splice ( The big chunky part of the wire) should not be in the shower but in the main floor area. This video is only a demonstration of How I did it, you should consult all directions of the heat system manufacturer and follow all their recommendations.
