In preparation for the forthcoming “The Top 500 Best Hip-Hop Artists of All Time” list, I wanted to get out “The Best Diss Tracks” and “Best Duos & Groups” lists, in order to prepare for that list. Interestingly enough, this list was not super difficult to put together. Not to say it wasn’t a challenge altogether, but I’ve had more challenging and difficult list to put together in the past. For criteria, in order of importance: catalog of the group & individual members (if needed), technical skill of the members, and impact. In general, impact & influence are by far my least important criteria; that is still the case here. I still factor it in, but not as much as others do. As I say in virtually all my videos (and will continue to say so) I am an unoriginal copycat. Some notes: Unofficial duos like Freddie Gibbs & Madlib aren’t eligible for this list. The reason why: If you go onto any streaming service, you won’t find an artist profile titled “Freddie Gibbs & Madlib”; meanwhile if you look up “Blu & Exile”, or “Showbiz & A.G.”, you will find an actual artist profile under that name. Black Hippy and The Juice Crew will not appear on this list because they don’t have an official release as a collective. They’ve appeared on songs; but they need a full record (album or mixtape). Record labels like Dreamville, Odd Future, PRO ERA, & Griselda aren’t eligible. Souls of Mischief are apart of Hieroglyphics, 7L & Esoteric are apart of CZARFACE as well as Army of The Pharaohs, and as such; them and other big supergroups like Boot Camp Clik, The Eastern Conference, & Native Tongues will not be in the list either because that’s just repetitive. Production groups like Handsome Boy Modeling School were exempt from this list. It’s fine if the group both produces and raps; but I didn’t include them if they were just producers. I don’t factor in influence much into account; as such early 80s groups like Whodini along with Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five didn’t place super high. No disrespect to these guys; I am a fan of a lot of their music. But better music is better music. Just like with all my lists, the order isn’t super important. My lists are always about celebrating hip hop. This list will most likely be updated in the future. Honorable Mentions: The Throne, The Whooliganz, Hot Boy$, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Da Lench Mob, Flipmode Squad, Styles of Beyond Please like, share, and subscribe for more music related content!
